On a recent Friday afternoon I was able to catch up with Craig Pruitt, President of Carolina Slings Co., at his office and manufacturing plant on Route 17 just south of Exit 5 off Route 95 in Hardeeville. Craig and I got to talk about  "slings" all the places in the world he ships his products to, and his "other business", "Scabbard", the ultimate in firearm protection.

Craig Pruitt has many accomplishments to his credit. He achieved Eagle Scout credentials at the age of 16. He was graduated with an ABS from Newberry College in Newberry, SC in 1987 with a degree in Business Economics. Craig was also president of his fraternity, Kappa Alpha and has  two patents for the sling and loading industry. Craig is also proud to serve as Executive Committeeman to the Jasper County Republican Party. With all his activities in business and the community Craig says his "only two hobbies are hunting and fishing". That's hard for me to believe as Craig approaches all his activities with the zeal most of us usually reserve just for our hobbies.

Craig began Carolina Slings at it's present location in Hardeeville in 1988 . In addition to slings from 1/2" to 12" Wide handling weights from 500 lbs. to 100,000 lbs., Carolina Slings products can be found worldwide with special products for the pre/sling and commodities industries. "You'll find my slings in sea ports and companies around the world. For instance we ship a large amount of commodity slings to Del Monte in Guatemala for the banana trade." Carolina Slings also markets a number of other products, among them  environmental fabric and barrier fencing.

I asked  Craig's for his feelings about the future of Hardeeville and Jasper County and am happy to report that Craig's feeling run high with optimism. "I believe the coming of the deep water sea port to the Savannah and Hardeeville's annexation of 11.5 sq. miles of route 278 property coupled with the new hospital, University of South Carolina campus the growing number of store fronts and manufacturing plants is indicative of what the future holds for Hardeeville and Jasper County. I have enjoyed my 15 years here as businessman and resident, and I know that we'll see growing prosperity and creation of a great future."

Craig's good friend and Carolina Sling's resident "president" is Chandler. He's one of those guys who's bark is worse than his bite. Laid back and confident he's the boss.

The Greater Hardeeville Chamber of Commerce is proud to recognize Craig Pruitt and Carolina Slings for it's years as part of the fabric of Hardeeville and Jasper County. Thank you Craig. Congratulations on your 15th Anniversary.
